Each one of Roberto Santana's
works is a declaration in favour of the hybrid.
In Paintings charecteristic of 80s and 90s post-modernism, he combines
New Figurative, Pop Art and Gestural Abstraction. Quotations, borrwings and
historical references form the basis of a body of work that singles out these
diverse elements in order to underline their eclectism. Inconstant, his painting
developed from the 80s synthetizes memory, sensations, old photographs, sketchbook,
press cuttings, fragments from everyday scenes. Brasilian, born in 1962 and
brought up in São Paulo. Being an illustrator, belong to a generation of São
Paulo artists who were driven forward by a criative restlessness based on
international artistic idioms, as if translating the very cosmopolanism of
the São Paulo capital. The effects of tranparencies, the ninble, gestual brush
strokes, and colour dissolved and drained in gentle chromaticism are part
of his working process of series of musicians, womans and urban scenes.

Nascido em 1962 em São
Paulo onde trabalha, Roberto Santana faz sua pintura eclética com base nas
linguagens artísticas nacionais, internacionais e contemporâneas. Nas suas
pinturas busca a sua memória da fase juvenil. Pinta com influências do Expressionismo
Abstrato, Fauvismo, Neo-Expressionismo dos anos 80, a Pintura Figurativa Pós-Moderna
e a Pop Arte.
Inconstante, desenvolve pequenas séries e sempre muda de temática
e técnica.
É artista plástico e ilustrador desde 1983. Estudou Publicidade
em 1980, Desenho e Criatividade no Ebart com Zélio em 1983.
Desenvolve paralelamente seus trabalhos de artes plásticas e de ilustração
editorial e publicitária que o inspirou fazer o Projeto Lado B e o
Cinema Desenhado em 2007 participando como artista e curador.
